Rhonda Chafin, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank, in a recent letter to volunteers said she wanted to express her deepest thanks for the kindness and for the trust being placed in the Food Bank as stewards of your generosity. It is through volunteers, donors and personal advocates like you that we can continue to make a fundamental difference in the lives of our neighbors. The Food Bank is committed to honoring your work by providing essential services with compassion and respect for those we serve. Your generosity is the foundation upon which our work is built, and we are profoundly thankful for your partnership!
First Presbyterian Church – Kingsport supports Second Harvest on several fronts. We have made annual donations from our Endowment Fund for many years running. We have about forty members actively involved as warehouse volunteers packing food bags and boxes for distribution to those in need throughout the eight county region. FPC volunteers also carry the “last mile delivery” each month from our church to eight Kingsport City Schools who are participating in the Food For Kids program. Martha Pendley told me that she worked at Second Harvest with us recently packing food, and within the next week a food delivery was made to The Oasis. Ironically as the women at The Oasis shared that food, Martha saw the same items that she packed the week before! So we have lots of contact points!
Volunteering to pack food is a small but meaningful venture. We have great fun, enjoy everyone’s fellowship and serve a greater purpose as we do it. Please join us Wednesday, October 16 for our next day of service at Second Harvest. We plan to have two sessions: 10-noon and 1-3pm. Please call or text Bob Stoots at 423-782-6280 to sign-up!
