First Presbyterian Church is pleased to host a seminar on Protecting Yourself from Scams and Cybercrime. Presenting this seminar is Special Agent Matthew Thompson.

Matthew Thompson is a Special Agent (SA) with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Cybercrime Investigations Squad with approximately 30 years of law enforcement experience. For approximately 16 years, SA Thompson served in the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Drug Investigation Division conducting state and federal narcotics and money laundering investigations in East Tennessee. In 2023, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation created the Cybercrime Investigations Squad due to increased cybercrime reporting and the technical skills required to conduct these types of investigations. SA Thompson has been serving in the Cybercrime Investigations Squad since its inception.  SA Thompson is responsible for conducting investigations involving business email compromise, cyber intrusion, transnational money mule networks, elder financial fraud, dark web/cryptocurrency investigations, ransomware, online threats, and account takeovers. SA Thompson is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.  SA Thompson is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Accelerated Cyber Training Program and is assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Joint Cybercrime Task Force in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Attendees can join us for a box lunch at 12:30 pm ($13 per person) or just attend the seminar that starts at 1:00 pm. The presentation is expected to conclude around 3:00 pm followed by a brief period of Q&A.
